A MEMBER of the Council of Elders in Buin, South Bougainville wants a feeder road which leads to the three main villages upgraded.
Lenoke council chairman Joseph Kinani told The National that the last time the road from Kanauro to Masiogu was upgraded was between 2005 and 2009 by the Government and the Autonomous Bougainville Government. Up to now, nothing had been done, making it hard for farmers to transport their produce to the main market in Buin town.
Kinani said there was nothing much they could do because of the current economic situation.
“We are also hoping that the Government and ABG find money from somewhere and help us maintain the road,” he said. He said only some parts of the roads could be used by vehicles.
“For some parts where it is very bad, the farmers carry their produce like cocoa to where they can access vehicles,” he said.
Kinani said the matter was raised with the former South Bougainville MP, the late Steven Kamma Pirika.
