B’ville students to do degree in Aust

Education

THIRTEEN Bougainville students have been given scholarships to do degree programmes at the Central Queensland University in Australia next year.
The 11 girls and two boys are sponsored under the foreign exchange education programme by Bougainville’s regional member, Joe Lera.
The students passed their bridging course at the Rockhampton Grammar School and start their four-year course at Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Queensland, next year.
“Let’s develop our people so they will contribute in the nation building,” Lera said.
“We have to invest in educating our human resources in all aspect of life in order for us to build a strong and vibrant society.”
Lera said four of the students will do engineering, three will do business administration, three will study law and management and one will study environmental science.
The university has offered places for another 15 students.
“A pathway has already been created for our students and in regard to the request I have met and held discussions with the three other national MPs asking them if they can sponsor five top students each from their electorate to take up the opportunity,” Lera said.
