B’villeans told to register for referendum
BOUGAINVILLEANS living in the National Capital District have been urged to register their names on the referendum roll in order to vote in the upcoming Bougainville referendum.
In a statement, Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato also called Bougainvilleans living in other parts of the country to register as time was running out for referendum voter registration.
Persons above 18-years old are eligible to register.
The PNG Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the Port Moresby Bougainville Association, will be conducting registration and enrolment for eligible voters tomorrow during the Bougainville Day celebrations at Sir John Guise Stadium tomorrow.
Registration is from 8am to 4pm.
Details on the registration process and procedures would be explained at the venue.
“It is your constitutional right to vote in the referendum, so make it your business as a proud Bougainvillean to come and register so that you can be eligible to vote in the referendum in October,” Gamato said.
“The referendum is a right.
“It is rare internationally and unique only to Bougainville, therefore it is a must that you exercise that right and make your say on the political future of Bougainville.”
