Cabinet appoints Hulahau as chief migration officer

STANIS Hulahau has been appointed by the National Executive Council as the Chief Migration officer.
He replaces Robert Kennedy who has been acting in the position for the past 13 months.
Kennedy was told on Tuesday to vacate the office by the Minister for Immigration and Border Security Westley Nukundj.
It is understood that National Executive Council (NEC) confirmed Hulahau’s appointment on Jan 20.
Prime Minister James Marape signed the papers on Tuesday.
Hulahau, yesterday, was welcomed by officers of Immigration and Citizenship Authority at his office.
Kennedy had been acting in the position after Solomon Kantha’s appointment was revoked in 2019 because it was deemed in breach of the appointment process.
Nukundj at that time said Kantha was not on the shortlist of candidates recommended by the Ministerial Executive Appointment Committee.
Hulahau held the position of deputy chief migration officer in the compliance and enforcement division.
He has been with the authority for eight years.
Prior to that, he served in the Department of Prime Minister and NEC as the director national security coordination and Department of Defence as first assistant secretary for strategic intelligence estimates.
Hulahau holds a masters in public administration degree from the National University in Seoul and a bachelor of economics degree from the University of Papua New Guinea.
