Cabinet confirms Gamato’s position
The National, Thursday July 2nd, 2015
ACTING Morobe provincial administrator Patilias Gamato has been made the provincial administrator by Cabinet.
Government sources said yesterday that Gamato was confirmed to the position by Cabinet at its meeting on Monday.
The appointment comes as Lae is high on the agenda of the Morobe provincial government, including the problematic Lae City Council, and the new Lae City Authority.
The Government is at the same time injecting a massive amount of money and resources into Lae and Morobe for major projects including Lae roads, Lae-Nadzab Highway, the Lae Tidal Basin Project and Wagang Fisheries Wharf, among others.
There are two major mining projects in Hidden Valley and Wafi-Golpu.
Gamato has been acting in the position since May when Cabinet approved it, putting to rest months of controversy over the position.
Gamato, 48, a career Morobe public servant from Sapa village in Morobe Patrol Post, Huon district is married with three children.
He holds two degrees, a Masters in Strategic Management from the University of PNG and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Administration from the University of PNG.
He started work with the Morobe administration in 1984 as a clerk and worked his way up the system.
He was executive officer to three former provincial secretaries and was the Lae district administrator from 1998-2002 under then Lae MP Bart Philemon,
