SAM Koim has been permanently appointed as the commissioner general of the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC), Prime Minister James Marape says.
Marape made the announcement yesterday during the launch of IRC’s 2020 annual work plan at the commission’s headquarters in Port Moresby.
He said it was a Cabinet decision to appoint Koim to a permanent role based on merit.
“Let me convey my congratulations of the highest order, the last Cabinet confirmed his (Koim) appointment amongst the equally qualified candidates,” Marape said.
“This meeting is coinciding with this announcement so let me congratulate you Koim because you have earned it based on merit and by design.
“In the advertisement that went out, it affirmed this for you to become the head of this important organisation.”
Marape told the staff of IRC that: “You have a new leader who has come in and he may be new to your organisation but he makes people work so please respond to him.”
Koim told the media after the launch that he was grateful to the government to have permanently appointed him to the post.
The National reported on Aug 16, last year that Koim was appointed to take the IRC top post as commissioner general in an acting capacity.
Koim previously served as the former chairman of the anti-corruption team Task Force Sweep.
