Cable will increase internet use, threats: Official

THE use of internet will increase as well as cyber threats when the Coral Sea cable reaches Papua New Guinea later this year, Datec acting chief executive officer Gokul Naidu says.
“It is important that in the next one or two years, we spread the message of cyber security and awareness is created for users so that when they start taking advantage of the coral sea cable, they are not compromised, they are not prone to attacks,” Naidu said.
Datec was one of the gold sponsors of the digital economy forum in Port Moresby last week. The company has been operating in the country for 33 years, providing network security and cyber security, cyber security awareness training and intensive cyber security training.
The Datec Learning Centre provides corporate trainings.
“We work with our partners to bring the best in what is essential to this country,” Naidu said.
“Currently, we are working on this particular training which is the cyber security first-responders training.
“We also providing certification for this programme.”
