Cable will make business cheaper: Council

THE Australia-PNG Business Council is happy that the cost of doing business in PNG will be cheaper once the Coral Sea cable is connected from Australia.
Council chief executive officer Materua Tamarua said: “It will make businesses more aware of how important the digital industry is, on how everything is becoming a lot more digitalised, paperless.
“In the past, you needed a server to store your information.
“Now everything is cloud-based. At the moment when you want to back your information on the clouds, you know some information.
“Sometimes it drops out and that is not good for business.”
“The council was established in 1980.
“It is a non-profit association of Australia-based businesses which have interests in Papua New Guinea.
It promotes Australian business interests in PNG through:

  • The holding of trade, investment and information seminars on PNG:
  • participation in regular bilateral Ministerial talks to discuss major policy issues of concern to Australian business;
  • submissions to government on policy matters affecting Australian business interest in PNG;
  • the receiving and sending of trade and investment delegations between Australia and PNG;
  • dissemination to members of information on current economic, political and social developments in PNG; and,
  • Providing access to a network of Australian businesses with long experience in PNG with whom members can seek and share information.
