Call for better strategies

Letters

I URGE the government’s so-called spectrum of think tankers to map out strategies on the way forward to counter the onslaught effects of the coronavirus – Covid-19.
Across the globe, affected countries are shutting down borders affecting international travel and the flow of trade in goods and services.
The public wants to know and be prepared for the worse to come or not.
If the Covid-19 outbreak is not contained within the next nine months, it will most likely lead to a global economic recession impinging on the welfare and livelihood of the masses.
There is likely to be shortage of supplies and all domestic manufactures that rely on global value chains for their input and output will be severed.
This would incite panic amongst consumers, resulting in hyperinflation, economic disorder and social chaos in urban settings.
Food security among other essentials such as drugs and health care products and fuel energy will keep the domestic economy rolling in the midst of such threats.
It should be the long term priority for the Government.
