LAE City coach Peter Gunemba says the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has to take heed and help the club in processing the international transfer certificate (ITC) of their Ecuadorian players.
Gunemba told The National yesterday that signing professional players from abroad to play for clubs in PNG would not only benefit the immediate club but soccer in the country and Oceania region. He said PNGFA needed to be more active in doing its part as the sport’s national governing body. “We have already submitted some information to the PNGFA but we still need some more information and we are working on it,” he said. “It will all depend on their respective club officials in Ecuador, if they are cooperative we will get this done.
“But PNGFA has to help in whatever way they can because we are not only representing Lae and Morobe but PNG as a whole.”
Gunemba said PNGFA needed to be careful in handling the international player transfer process as it would set a precedence on future international players who may want to come play for PNG clubs.
“We have to set a good precedence in such cases,” he said.
“For PNG, we want development by bringing in players to lift the standards. If we don’t handle player transfers properly it will affect PNG.”
