NUKU MP Joe Sungi has suggested that the government regulate the price of all exports, including securing overseas markets.

He said at present there were many cocoa exporters buying the cash crop at various prices.

Sungi expressed his concern during grievance debate in Parliament last Friday, basing it on cocoa in his district.

“How can the government regulate and support the price of cocoa that is the only means of income for them (Nuku people)?” he asked.

“Even, for example, you can go to the extreme of selling timber for that matter. Why can’t the government do that instead of giving it to the private companies and we don’t even know how much they’re selling our products out there in the overseas markets.”

Sungi suggested that the Cocoa Board take charge to sell all cash crops.
