Call to address rise in violence

ADDRESSING sorcery accusation-related violence (Sarv) in Enga needs more attention and focus so negligence doesn’t become a factor in it, according to the Wabag Catholic diocese bishop.
“In July and August, we attended to six cases of women who were accused of sorcery and were being tortured,” Bishop Arnold Orowea told The National.
“The diocese is currently running a one-week workshop on sorcery accusation related violence, basically to educate and prepare community leaders on how to deal with cases, and also for them to make awareness in the community against Sarv,” he said.
“We decided to do it now because recently we have about six cases of women being accused.
“The six cases were only within the month of July.
“These things continue to happen and there seem to be no real change that can bring some assistance to help this people.”
