Call to change minister

Letters

PRIME Minister James Marape, please give us a new education minister.
The Education Ministry alone receives the highest cake among all government departments.
From that teachers pays get the biggest cake of all public servants pays.
This means that almost K80 million in a fortnight is paid to the 65,000 teachers in PNG.
Do we also realise that from that K80 million a fortnight paid to teachers in a fortnight, almost K7 million to K8 million kina is paid to teachers who do not teach?
These group of teachers who don’t teach and get paid are those who have recently retired, resigned, deemed to have resigned, passed on but continue to be paid for some time before being finally removed from payroll.
These teachers also include those who are leave teaching to take unapproved studies.
They also include those who are not happy with their appointments but decide to stay out of teaching while still getting paid.
So what is the result? The State losses also K200 a million a year from paying ghost teachers.
We need a new honest and hardworking education minister who will put up a strategy or mechanism in place which will then put a stop to this problem and save millions from being paid to ghost teachers.
