Call to estabilish education policy body
The National, Friday February 12th, 2016
THERE is a need for a well-established body of education policy decision makers in East New Britain.
Rabaul MP Dr Allan Marat said in Rabaul last week that there should be a selected and permanent body of qualified professionals set up in East New Britain to study and analyse education policies that were beneficial for education in East New Britain.
He proposed for the body to be called the ‘provincial education reform group’.
“This body of qualified people when studying and analysing education policies will answer questions about the purpose of education primarily in the province,” he said.
“This body of education reformists will be the craftsmen of the provincial education policies.
“The provincial government should take ownership of this body and look after it well.”
Marat said the national education department should be advancing its role in education policy making by building on local level government, district and provincial government education policies.
He said this would be in line with bottom-up planning and development.
He said national education policy making must reflect more involvement of local level governments, districts and provincial government input.
