ROAD accidents in the city are caused by drivers who fail to follow simple traffic rules and regulations, National Road safety Council executive director, Nelson Terema says.
Terema said some drivers in the city had an attitude problem and flouted traffic rules and regulations.
“Drivers of prime movers and heavy vehicles using the freeway at Burns Peak have been advised and cautioned on countless occasions that they must always keep to the outside lane or the left to avoid collision or accidents,” he said.
He said obeying the traffic signs, rules and regulations would save lives.
The council is carrying out awareness campaigns in schools around the city.
“Drivers must take precaution at school crossings as most children under the age of seven cross roads without care,” he said.
Terema said council officers were on the road to warn drivers that they should not be driving un-roadworthy vehicles, have expired licenses, registrations. But some drivers still ignored these rules.
