Call to prioritise female parole applications

MINISTER for Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven has called on the administrators of the parole system to prioritise parole applications of female inmates.
Steven made this call after receiving a request from Prime Minister James Marape on Sunday who was thinking of mothers behind bars as many celebrated Mothers’ Day. He said Marape wanted to see an increase in the number of female inmates being processed through the administrative licensing processes.
“As a layman and the leader of our country, he expressed his view,” Steven said.
“Of course, I said that according to law our wishes and our intentions may not be met because the law can never always meet our expectations. Law is set on principles,” he said.
Steven challenged the parole board and administration to prioritise the female inmates.
He said that while addressing the parole board during the parole board hearings at the female wing of Bomana prison yesterday.
