Call to provide market security

Police, community leaders, National Capital District Commission employees, security guards and youths should be engaged to provide security for the new Gordon Market, Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) Association president Jack Waso says.
He raised this concern yesterday when highlighting the high crime rate, ethnic clashes and even murders at the old market.
“There were many such issues happening in the past,” Waso said.
“To my understanding, there were four deaths and other crimes like bag snatching, harassment of women and children, and pickpocketing, among others.
“There should be 10 to 15 personnel from different groups assigned to keep the peace at the new market as well as the bus stop areas.
“There should be 10 strong community leaders selected from Gordon, Erima, Five-Mile and East Boroko so they can identify their community youths and warn them against getting involved in any such activities.”
