TWO local leaders in Bulolo, have called for an investigation into the Morobe provincial supply and tenders board to help clean suspect dealings on projects.
Teddy Kimo, community leader from Kembaka village in Biaru, Wau Rural, and Pastor Walter Sigi, from the Bakiri village, claimed contractors were “milking” major community projects in their areas over the years.
Some of the projects they said included the Garaina High School, Garaina tea, Wau-Biaru Highway and the Wau town to Winima high voltage power line project.
Pr Sigi said his people had noticed the same projects had from time to time being covered under numerous other projects approved through the PSTB.
“The provincial government must investigate its administration and the PSTB because hundreds of millions of kina are wasted every year not only in Bulolo but in the nine districts of Morobe,” he said.
“Without roads into Waria, nothing can eventuate – whether high school or rehabilitation of Garaina tea – because material and goods need cheaper transportation on road.”
Kimo said the Morobe government must fast-track the spending of the K12million support services grant which was secured in 2012 when Bulolo MP Sam Basil was the Minister for National Planning and Monitoring in the O’Neill-Namah government.
“We want K1 million allocated to this power line project because that will be the gateway for rural electrification into Biaru, Kasangare and Lower Waria areas,” Kimo said.
The two leaders sympathised with Basil because of the non-payment of district services improvement programme funds from last year and this year.
