CAMERON Secondary School has made history by becoming the first school to represent Milne Bay in the Institute of Business Studies National School Debate Competition.
The host school beat its four rivals – runner up Wesley Secondary, Holy Name, Santa Maria and Hagita Secondary – to take home the IBS Shield, medals, merchandise and booking a spot in the national competition in Port Moresby next month.
Debate assistant Vaili Kekedo said despite the last-minute change of venue, harsh weather conditions and time
constraints, her team managed to conduct the debate successfully.
“It was encouraging to see three schools – Santa Maria, Holy Name and Wesley Secondary – travelling in by boat to reach Alotau in time for the competition,” she said.
Kekedo said Milne Bay Governor Titus Philemon supported the programme by transporting Wesley Secondary participants to Cameron.
Provincial Education Board member and representative Julie Chauka thanked IBS for including Milne Bay in the debate competition and commended them for the efforts.
Schools already through are Jubilee Secondary (NCD), Sogeri National High (Central), Coronation College (Morobe) and Notre Dame Secondary (Western Highlands).
