The Easter camp at Mapos Island, in the Buang circuit of the Evangelical Lutheran church, has been hailed a success.
More than 2,000 young people from the Buang local level government, Bulolo district, Morobe, attended the camp.
It was also the silver jubilee of the Easter camp.
It attracted youths from Madang, Mt
Hagen, Goroka, Port Moresby, Lae town, Wau-Bulolo, Buang, Potsie and Markham Bridge.
Rev Matai Ibak of the church’s Madang district, who facilitated the camp and anniversary as study master, told the youths of Buang it was time to be firm, go forward and spread the good news of Christ.
“Thank God, he has supported the committee of the Easter camp when the Buang camp started in 1988 until today where we are witnessing and celebrating the silver jubilee,” Ibak said.
He encouraged the youths to rise and take the Buangs to the next level.
The camp ended with a reconciliation that saw coordinator Mark Lisek, whose been coordinating for past 10 years, handing over the position to Chris Yaomi.
The next Easter Camp will be
hosted by Manga parish in 2013.
The major sponsor of 2012 Easter Camp at Mapos Island was Minister for National Planning, Sam Basil, who gave K5,000, contractor Abraham Waim gave K1,500, Zill Buang soccer tournament K8,000 and the six parishes in the Buang Circuit contributing food and cash.
