Campus backs women

 Divine Word University continues to empower female students to actively take part in gender awareness.
Last week the university’s Student Representative Council came to the female student’s aid to boost celebrations for the annual International Women’s Night, fell on March 15 on the university’s calendar.
A pig worth K800 was presented to the night committee as part of the students’ support for the event.
Council president, Michael Yama said as intellectuals young men educated at such level they should understand the important roles women played in society. He said today most social problems were caused by men yet women were always there to help  in maintaining peace and order.
“We want to promote gender equity in Divine Word University because we care for women. Women are everything to us. Women are key managers and today is their time to rise up,” Yama said.
He said as a major sponsor of this year’s celebrations the Students Representative Council had chosen to buy the pig as it was a symbol of value in traditional Papua New Guinea societies.
