Candidate wants daytime counting

GULF regional candidate Susuve Laumaea is asking election officers in the province to conduct counting during the day.
He said black-outs in Kerema were common and all counting should be done in daylight to avoid foul play.
“Kerema does not have a reliable electricity supply and shift arrangement should not be an option at all,” he said.
“Previous Gulf elections were allegedly hijacked in the tally centres and must not be repeated.
“This election has attracted many intelligent candidates who have given their best efforts to do something positive.
“Gulf people deserve to rise, shine and prosper. We all want to see a new blood of leaders not former or current non-performing, cashed up recycled leaders who have collectively lost the development for Gulf many years ago,” he said.
PNG Power Ltd in Kerema could not comment, only saying it had been in touch with the province elections steering committee chairman.
The Gulf provincial election steering committee chairman could not be reached for
comment.
