A TOTAL of 15 candidates will contest the Kandep by-election in Enga province.
But in a surprise move yesterday, seven of the 15 candidates turned up at the home of former
Transport, Works and Civil Aviation Minister Don Polye in Wabag town yesterday.
They apparently turned up and declared their support for Mr Polye.
The candidates were Kunda Lea, Depo Dawnny Kandu, India Rusta, Buka Piri, Leo Limbo, Lesri Moses Yakal and Win Amos. All are independent candidates.
Speaking on behalf of these candidates, Mr Kandu said they believed Mr Polye was capable and should be allowed to return to carry on the good work he had done for the electorate.
“I’m a heavy equipment fitter by profession and I did try contest the seat in the by-election.
“But after realising what Mr Polye did for my electorate, I am very happy because he (Mr Polye) has served the people with all his heart,” Mr Kandu said.
Nominations closed last Wednesday and polling would commence in November.
