PNG Ports Corporation Ltd (PNGPCL) has committed K10, 000 as a sponsor of the upcoming 6th National Canoe and Kundu Festival in Milne Bay province.
The three-day event will be held from Nov 6-8 at the Alotau market foreshore.
The sponsorship is part of PNGPCL’s corporate community service obligations towards the Milne Bay community.
It is also due to the company’s business expansion plans at the Alotau port and especially its plans to provide pilot transfer services at the Jomard Entrance at the far eastern part of Milne Bay.
PNGPCL will use this event as an opportunity for promotional purposes and is currently in the process of preparations to send a team to Alotau.
Maleta Tokwakwasi from the Milne Bay Tourism Bureau, on behalf of the National Canoe and Kundu Festival committee, thanked PNGPCL for the sponsorship.
Organising committee member Tim Seeto said this year’s event would be the biggest and most-spectacular canoe cultural show in PNG.
Mr Seeto said the festival would be drawing over 1, 000 participants and 50 canoes this year.
The canoe festival is a rare opportunity to witness the amazing diversity of cultures and canoes unique to the Milne Bay region.
