Capacity building vital, says O’Neill

Treasurer and Finance Minister Peter O’Neill yesterday said the government was supportive of capacity building for the country and was looking forward to promoting it.
He made this remark at a graduation of the first group of PNG delegates who were awarded certificates on international qualification in purchasing and supply, in which qualification was provided by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
The event which took place at Lamana Hotel, Port Moresby, had 11 graduates who successfully completed the international certificate in purchase and supply programme, which was supported by the Central Supply and Tenders Board (CTSB) and AusAID.
O’Neill said PNG had gone through lots of changes and was starting to mature, which resulted in lots of opportunities coming up and encouraged the participants to advance their knowledge through such programmes to contribute toward nation building.
He also urged the graduates to exercise transparency and accountability in their field of work and to always remember to work on behalf of the people.
“We have the responsibility to perform well in what we do and to maintain the trust people have in us,” he said. 
O’Neill added that the government would look into assisting such training programmes offered for capacity building.
