BOROKO Motors sees the government’s cuts on import duty for motor vehicles from the 2020 Budget as a positive time for customers to save money on purchases.
General manager David Lowe said the changes implemented by the Government as of Jan 1 would reduce prices of new vehicles particularly SUVs (60 per cent down to 20 per cent), double-cab utilities (40 per cent to 20 per cent) and luxury cars above 2.7Lt (110 per cent to 40 per cent).
Lowe said at Boroko Motors, there was significant savings on its range of SUVs and sedans (all with a three-year warranty): Kia – Sportage, Sorento, Cerato and Seltos (soon to be released); Nissan – X-Trail, Terra; Isuzu – D-Max.
He said prices for their three main SUVs would be reduced:
lNissan X-Trail – originally K151,000 would be K113,900 in 2020;
lKia Sportage – originally K161,000 would be K121,900 in 2020; and,
lKia Sorento – originally K179,000 would be K138,900 in 2020.
“This can only be seen as a positive in making vehicles more affordable particularly in the current economic conditions,” he said.
Lowe said the reduction was extremely favourable and would bring more opportunities for buyers to afford quality second hand vehicles.
“As to the impacts to our business we see this as a positive impact to pass on the savings to our customers and continue to offer high level service to the PNG community,” he said.
“We are also introducing a three-year warranty across our double cab range Isuzu D-max and Nissan NP300.”
