Car goes for a swim … After a night out in town, three men travelling at high speed towards Omili found themselves swimming in Bumbu River with their vehicle. Witnesses from the nearby settlement said the accident happened at about 3am yesterday. Police said the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and hit the railing on the left side of the bridge, then swerved to the right, bent part of the railing and dropped 15m into the river. The Nissan Patrol sports utility vehicle landed on its back, half submerged, with all four wheels up. Fortunately for the occupants, help came quickly and they were rushed to Angau Memorial Hospital. By morning, many parts of the vehicle had gone missing as vandals worked through the night to strip off what they could.  – Nationalpic by Ellen Tiamu
