Careless drivers

The National Letters

THERE are many careless drivers on our roads and because of that we are having more road accidents in Port Moresby.
There are three main factors:

  • Drinking-driving;
  • Unlicensed drivers, and the police should deal with them.
  • Drivers with licence who should not be driving because they are either bad drivers or don’t know the road rules.

We used to have proper driving tests, but today there are many ways to get a licence.
To deal with these problems we need to deal with corrupt and rogue police officers first.
The police commander should severely punish officers who take bribes or who help give away a driver’s licence without the proper process being followed.
Members of the public should be careful when sitting, walking or standing by the road because roadside accidents are common.
