Carr Memorial Primary School celebrates first ever student baptisms

CARR Memorial Adventist Primary School in Port Moresby has for the first time witnessed and celebrated the baptism of 21 grade 8 students last Wednesday.
It was a time of great joy as parents, guardians, teachers and citizens gathered to witness the event.
The baptism was officiated by the Adventist church’s National Capital District director Pastor Gibson Lohia and Waigani church pastor Aki Pawa.
Principal Nida Bland said: “The inclusion of a chaplain has driven spiritual focus and with the help of our wonderful teachers, today we witness such a gathering.”
Deputy principal Laka Batu said it was a result of the hard work of teachers over the past years in training the students in the fear of God.
“Praise be to God,” he said.
With the inclusion of a chaplain minister Dominic Elwyn, the school prepared its first fruit through Bible classes and additional counselling to meet life in secondary schools next year.
The Adventist curriculum promotes a distinct world view which focuses on character building and usefulness in service to God and mankind, above and beyond the learning of sciences and arts.
Although faced with numerous challenges such as expanding to meet the growing demand of the community, the Adventist Education Department and school board now have a master plan by which these dreams may be realised.
Being the school’s first baptism since its establishment in the 1980s, it testifies to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Recently, Carr Memorial School has been awarded fivestar under the church’s Adventist Accreditation Association (AAA), making it the highest primary school recipient in the country and the church’s South Pacific division.
Carr Memorial also is the largest of the church’s schools in terms of enrolment in the division and is part of the world-wide Adventist education system with the mission to “educate for eternity”.
