Cases of abuse of minors increasing, says magistrate

A Magistrate says cases of sexual abuse of minors are now increasing in court.
The latest is of a man, 34, charged with engaging in an act of persistent sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl between June and May last year at Gerehu in Port Moresby.
Waigani Magistrate Cosmas Bidar yesterday ruled that there was sufficient evidence to commit Seni Bieb from Ullum village in Karkar Island, Madang, to stand trial in the National Court. “This is yet another case of abusing an underage female child. It’s a prevalent offence. In fact it’s an everyday case in this court,” Bidar said.
