MORE than K100,000 in goods and cash was raised yesterday to support the families whose homes were destroyed in a fire at Hanuabada village in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Mea Hila, a volunteer for the Hanuabada Fire Relief Committee, said companies and individuals offered their support yesterday.
“Organisations like Oil Search, business houses and people from all walks of life have been coming to help since word gone out that 15 homes had been burnt,” Hila said.
“We have donations of food and household goods coming in.
“It’s just so wonderful to see Papua New Guineans and the international committee supporting us at this time.
“We have two to three families in one house.
“So it’s like more than 200 people are now displaced or homeless.”
Hila said seven houses were partly burnt and families were still in shock after losing everything.
Hila thanked everyone who had shown their support in cash, kind and prayers.
