Cater for late enrolment

Letters

I FEEL neglected by the timing and quick closure of the public display and updating of the Bougainville Referendum roll.
I am a Bougainvillean who had always looked forward to participating in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in terms of a people or region determining their political future through such a noble process as referendum.
I’m sure there are other fellow Bougainvilleans out there who are now left out of this process and therefore, may have their rights to vote deemed unlikely.
We will live with this trauma that we did not participate in the most important event of our region’s/people’s history.
I don’t know if I should be guilty or being regretful for not being able to exercise this important right at the right time.
Those in-charge of the process or those taking lead in the various programmes and processes, or those who have enrolled and confirmed their names on the roll may put the sole blame upon me for not ensuring my name is in the roll.
However, it should be noted that not every eligible voter receives the messages at the same time or through the same mediums of transmission.
I had been caught up with work and tasks that benefit Bougainville directly over the short to medium term as well.
Unfortunately, I’m one of those that have been left out since I was not sure of the closure date for the updating of the roll.
I don’t know if I have to be guilty or live with regret for the rest of my life, alongside my fellow country-men and women, who have helped the region take its next course.
As such, on behalf of all eligible un-enroled voters to-date, I appeal to the BRC and the ABG to make supplementary rolls to allow for anyone who had missed out on the roll-update proper to enrol and be given the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the referendum before the polling dates fall.
