Catholic clergy among 80 recognised by GG for their service

REV Rochus Josef Tatamai of the Catholic Church was among 80 individuals recognised for their services and work by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae at Government House during an investiture ceremony in Port Moresby yesterday.
People from the public and private sectors were recognised in the 2019 New Year’s Honours list.
Tatamai was rewarded for services to the community and the Catholic Church through significant contribution as a priest, with diverse roles in pastoral and vocations including “Voice of Peter Torot” on radio and television, Bishop at Kerema, Bereina and now at Kavieng and for his wider leadership as the president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of PNG and the Solomon Islands.
Tatamai is one of those patriotic Papua New Guinean who never ceases to serve the people with an open heart against all odds.
Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, who was awarded Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL) for services to the community and the judiciary was not present.
Tatamai was awarded the Companion of the Order of Star of Melanesia for services to the community and the Catholic Church and among others, Michael Marum as Member of the Order of Logohu for services to rugby league as a highly successful coach for SP Hunters and PNG Kumuls.
Ase Bose, former captain of the Hunters who just returned from England to join the club, was also installed with the Insignia of the National Logohu Medal for service to rugby league as a player and captain of Agmark Gurias and Hunters and their victory in the Queensland Intrust Cup in 2017.
Other categories are: The National Logohu Medal (LM), Cross of Medical Service (CMS), Meritorious Public Service Medal and Meritorious Community Service Medal, MCS.
