THE diocese of Wewak held their first media and youth training for its youth leaders at the Tangugo pastoral centre at Wewak, East Sepik.
The training, held from May 13- 17, was facilitated by the Catholic Bishops Conference social communication and youth commission in collaboration with the Wewak diocesan youth.
More than 80 youth leaders from Wewak, Maprik and Sepik deaneries attended the training.
With the theme ‘Called to Holiness,’ the sessions dealt with issues affecting young people and discussed solutions to those issues.
The media sessions were based on writing articles, basic photography, posters with a message and social media.
Social communication and youth secretary Fr Ambrose Pereira and media personnel Abigail Seta facilitated the training.
Diocesean youth coordinator James Taku said the training was to empower youth leaders to serve others in their deaneries and parish.
“Communication is an issue in the diocese for young people and with the media sessions taught will help them to report, address and raise awareness on issues at the parish level and diocesan level,” Taku said.
“This training has been eye-opening as it is the first for the youths and it is really helping the young people and we hope there will be more of this type of training in the future.
“The youths have been challenged to do their best at this training and have put so much effort into completing their activities that were given.”
Youth animator of the Sepik Deanery Albert Topan said: “My commitment is to go out to the parish level and conduct social communication fellowship and formation of young people.”
