Catholic youths celebrate day

HUNDREDS of Catholic youths in Lae attended the annual feast day of Maria Goretti, the patron saint of youths from PNG and Solomon Islands, at St Mary’s parish in Eriku on Saturday.
The theme was “Bad company corrupts good morals”.
The youths, from 17 parishes in the Lae diocese, began with a mass at St Michaels parish before marching from there to St Mary’s hall where all the other activities took place.
They took part in thanksgiving, presentation of items followed by games.
The St Francis parish of Taraka won the game and will be hosting the feast day next year.
Lae diocese youth coordinator Noel Apul urged the youths to avoid bad company and be in the company of Christ.
“Do well and avoid bad activities,” he said.
Show good character and avoid peer activities, violence, pornography and other activities which are spoiling the lives of young people.”
Apul told them that what they did today would influence their future so they must think wisely.
Mary Queen of Peace youth leader Freddy Homiembu said it was their first time for them to host such an event.
