CATHOLICS in Drima, Yuri and Nondri parishes in Gumine, Chimbu, have congratulated Fr Paul Sundu on his appointment as the new Bishop of Kundiawa diocese.
Administrator of the three parishes the largest in Kundiawa diocese, Fr Peter Kim, conveyed the message on the appointment of Fr Sundu during the Easter vigil after it had been announced by Pope Francis in the Vatican.
Fr Sundu, who was ordained as diocesan priest in 2008, is the former rector of Good Shepherd College, a seminary in Jiwaka and served as priest of St Michael’s parish in Koge until his elevation as bishop-elect two weeks ago.
Dirima parish chairman Peter Maima congratulated Fr Sundu on behalf of the Drima, Yuri and Nondri parish members.
Maima said this was good news for the Kundiawa diocese which had not had a bishop since the former Rev Anton Bal moved to the Madang archdiocese and the diocese was administered by Fr Richard Wajab.
He said Catholics in Dirima, Nondri, and Yuri would continue to pray and support Fr Sundu until his ordination as bishop.
