WEST Eagles continued their perfect start to the Port Moresby Australian Football League season with a 70-26 (10.10 to 4.2) win over 13 Plus Cats at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
The wash-out match saw the Eagles kept to a tight contest in the opening quarter with the Cats defending well to limit the Eagles to just one goal and four behinds (10 points).
The Cats, under former Eagle Greg Ekari, had limited possession in attack with Eagles skipper Jeffery Voage and Clyde Pulah dictating the tempo of their centre line.
It allowed reigning champions Eagles to score three more goals and a behind while the Cats posted two goals and a behind to trail 14-29 at halftime.
Fatigue crept in as Ekari and centre Glen Saniong were unable to find space for the Cats to advance with the side restricted to only two goals in the second half.
The premiers attack continued with ruck follower Kila Rawali adding speed in the centres as the match gradually leaned in their favour. The Eagles bagged six more goals and five behinds to see out the win.
