Cause of NID system crash unconfirmed

The NID system is down, first the card-printing machines last month and now the entire online loading system has crashed since last week, leaving the registration staff to opt for setting up mobile kits for manual registrations, according to Acting Registrar-General Noel Mobiha. The system outage is being attributed to either the major power glitch last month or the surge in registration numbers per day. The cause remains unconfirmed.
Mobiha said speculation on power glitch being attributed to as the cause of the system failure that a similar power outage last year had left the card-printing machines non-functional, igniting a train of thoughts that in software systems, when a big system experienced a sudden shutdown, everything collapsed.
