community-based organisation at Bunum-Woo in Jiwaka province has received K25,000 loan from the National Development Bank.Twenty-five members of the group received K1,000 each last Friday for their income generating activities such as vegetable farming and poultry-raising.The bank made the loan available after the recipients completed a two-week intensive training programme on bookkeeping and small project management.NDB branch manager in Banz John Rambu told The National that it would greatly help the recipients and their families with their livelihood projects.Rambu said this would help the family members to improve their living standard and overcome financial problems. He said the challenge was for the recipients and their family members to fully utilise the money on identified livelihood projects.Rambu said under the NDB’s project to finance community-basedactivities, the loan would be repaid after six months.CBO president Christina Walep praised NDB for going into the rural areas and for assisting her members with the mini-loans.Walep said her members needed financing to start small projects that would help them improve their lots. She said the bank had taken a step in the right direction and appealed to the recipients to work hard and repay their loan on time.Walep said if they did not use the money, they would regret later the missed opportunity because such assistance would not be offered anymore to those who did not deliver.
