POLICE work will be greatly assisted with the use of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) facility available in the city, says Governor Powes Parkop.
“CCTV played a part in ensuring the two suspects who killed a man on Friday morning have been identified,” he said.
The CCTV cameras were installed during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby in November, 2018.
“They are still in place and we had some outstanding issues with them.
“We have dealt with that and we are now pushing to have the CCTVs working properly,” he said.
“The CCTV will help us to (tackle) crime, and we need those type of technology.
“Police manpower remains the same.
“I have been raising this issue in Parliament.
“I don’t blame them (police).
“They are doing their best in very trying times.
“The population is booming in NCD and we need to assist the police where we can.
“It is a very tough situation.”
Police have started operations in the Moresby South electorate to ensure no more ethnic clashes happen.
A fight which flared up again yesterday was quickly stopped by police in Koki.
