PNG Fire Service chief Bill Roo has called on people to celebrate the 44th independence anniversary safely and responsibly.
Roo told The National that with windy conditions being experienced, it was easy for a fire to spread and get out of control.
“For those who are planning barbecues or use fireworks, I am encouraging you to take precautions and ensure that everything is fire proof,” Roo said.
“… be mindful of the surroundings and celebrate responsibly.”
Roo said that the PNG Fire Service would be on call 24/7 during the long weekend.
