Central boxing groups unite to move forward

TWO factions, the Kairuku and Bereina amateur boxing associations in Central, have reconciled and will come under one umbrella.The disputing parties reconciled during the Moroi Cup championships in Aipeana village in Mekeo recently.The tournament was hosted by Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association (KABA).Speaking during the tournament, Bereina Amateur Boxing Association vice-president Andrew Magaiva said the associations would come together for the benefit of youths and boxing in the Kairuku and Mekeo areas.KABA president Philbert Asaiasa said both associations would ensure that boxing was promoted and developed in the area.He said the proposal for his executive to resign was a way forward to see fresh election and new executives elected.PNG national coach Joe Aufa said the PNG Amateur Boxing Union and the PNG Sports Federation would approve the move taken by the two factions to elect new executives.Aisaisa said Maigaiva and his faction could join KABA but his executive would have to wait until their term in office expires after two years."As the president it is my prerogative to call for an extraordinary meeting to hold fresh elections at Eboa village. The meeting will coincide with the tournament on Jan 19-21," he said."I am calling this meeting to show to the PNGABU and PNGSF that it is not about boxing but the youth and community in the area. "I will declare there will be the election of the new executive." Aisaisa urged affiliated clubs in Mekeo, Kairuku, Kini and Hiri to attend the meeting to elect the new executives. "I will be presenting a six-month operation report and the five-year corporate plan for KABA following the election of the new executives," he said.PNGABU president John Avira commended the associations for putting their differences aside and working together to promote and develop boxing.
