THE Central Dabaris Agarobe Nines rugby league tournament, scheduled for Nov 9-14, has been deferred to next year following a surge in the Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the country.
Dabaris programme coordinator Indy Verena confirmed the postponement with teams asked to refrain from training until the Covid-19 situation in the country was under control.
“This decision was made in consultation with the Central Dabaris board following the recent surge in the Covid-19 cases in the country,” he said.
“With the current state of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are mindful of gatherings during phase one of the tournament scheduled to be held in the 12 district zones in the province.
“We are now working on options and measures on how best we can manage the tournament and complying with the Niupela Pasin measures.
“In the meantime, team registrations continue as normal through to Dec 31.
“Interested teams in each zone can continue liaising with their respective zone coordinators for registration.”
Verena warned teams to follow the Niupela Pasin measures with players and officials in the province encouraged to get vaccinated.
The next tournament is the second edition of the event with the Dabaris partnering with the Central government to run satellite tournaments throughout the province.
Meanwhile, majority of sporting events and tournaments have been scaled down or put on hold following an increase in the Covid-19 cases in the nation’s capital.
