The National – Friday, December 24, 2010

I would like to bring to the attention of the Central governor and provincial health office about the suffering the people of Rigo district have had to endure since the closure of the district hospital due to the non-completion of the staff houses.
The staff houses were demolished to make way for the new ones to be erected.
In doing so, the staff of Kwikila Hospital and their families have been living in make-shift shelters for the past seven months.
The staff houses were supposed to be completed by the contractor, Konevilla Construction, last September but that did not happen.
There is a big signboard at the entrance of the hospital outlining what work the contractor was doing with the completion date Sept 30, 2010.
As a result, the staff closed the hospital, leaving us without any means of seeking treatment other than travelling to Moresby.
Something needs to be done about this because people of Rigo and the hospital staff are suffering.
Many of us cannot afford to pay K100 for the ambulance service to take the very sick to PMGH and many people have died.
