THE flood assessment report presented to the national disaster office (NDO) shows that the Central provincial disaster office will need K4 million to carry out its relief assistance.

The money will be used for the rebuilding of damaged infrastructure such as roads and bridges and funds to buy food and relief equipment such as tarpaulins, water containers and mosquito nets.

NDO acting director, Martin Mose, confirmed the report and said he had yet study the report to see exactly what was needed and where they (NDO) would come in.

Mose said the report was quite bulky and that he would need some time to read through and forward it to the government for consideration.

He said that K4 million was “quite substantial” and that he would send an independent investigation team out to verify the claims before funds were released by the government.

He said for Works department would be engaged in the reconstruction works on roads and bridges while NDO and its partners would concentrate on the lives of the affected people.
