A GROUP of people in Central have called on Motu-Koita Assembly chairman Dadi Toka Jr to apologise to their Governor Robert Agarobe for referring to him as “stupid” and “arrogant”.
With the support of the provincial assembly, the people met at Sirinumu Primary School in the Sogeri Valley yesterday and made the demand. Toka had called Agarobe “stupid” and “arrogant” on the social media.
The people said they were “not stupid” to elect Agarobe, a young and vibrant leader, to represent them in parliament.
Agarobe said he was the first landowner of Port Moresby to become the governor and he would pursue the interest of the landowners and his people.
He said for 135 years the people of Central had been supressed and in April last year he made a petition on behalf of them to get back the city of Port Moresby, especially the benefits.
Agarobe said his concern was that Central did not have a provincial headquarters with its own internal revenue base such as a port, an airport and other important facilities.
He said a Central city would eventuate but his concern was putting his people’s case before the national government.
Agarobe said Port Moresby was in Central but the benefits were not enough for the people.
He said the province was allocated K17 million from the K450 million National Capital District annual budget which was not sufficient to cover the province.
He said the people of Central wanted what was rightfully theirs and would pursue the agenda of taking back Port Moresby back to the people of Central.
