NOMINATIONS for the Central Province’s local level government elections are steadily rolling in although communication with the rural areas is difficult, said assistant election manager Serah Yanderave.

She said nominations started slowly when they opened last Thursday but the momentum picked up on Friday and Saturday.

But she said figures were hard to collate particularly from rural areas such as Goilala.

Central has four districts –  Abau, Rigo, Goilala and Kairuku-Hiri.

They are divided into 13 local level governments – Amazon Bay, Cloudy Bay and Aroma Coast  in the Abau District, Rigo Central, Rigo Coast and Rigo Inland for Rigo district, Guari, Tapini, and Woitape  in Goilala district, and Hiri, Koiari, Kairuku and Mekeo in Kairuku-Hiri district.

“Some candidates who contested last year’s national election are contesting for presidencies,” Yanderave said.

“Counting will be in the districts. For ward councilors, counting will be done immediately after the election. Only the presidents’ votes will be taken to the district office for counting.”
