SEMEDAGODA Primary School in Central has received K109,511 for the construction of a double classroom and two water tanks.
The school was one of the four recipients of a Japanese grant signed by Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima.
“The assistance from the Japan Government will relieve us from our struggles,” Semedagoda Primary School board chairman Taha Maiva said.
He said the present classrooms were built from untreated timbers and are no longer in a good state.
“We just wanted a good learning environment for both students and teachers,” he said.
Maiva said the school got its water from a river.
He said the two water tanks would make things better.
“The children are excited and look forward to the construction of their new classroom.”
