IT is the first time in 30 years that the 10km road from the junction of the Hiritano Highway to the Inauwi village and Veifa’a is being upgraded in Kairuku-Hiri district, Central.

The Kairuku-Hiri District Development Authority decided to upgrade the deteriorated road for K800,000.

The road serves the villages of Mekeo, Kuni, Paitana and others as well as the Catholic Station at Veifa’a with its establishments such as the church, St Gerard Community Health Worker Training School, Veifa’a Health Centre and schools.

Kairuku-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo said all district roads in the electorate would be upgraded.

He travelled on the upgraded road to the 29th graduation ceremony of St Gerard CHW Training School at Veifa’a last Friday.

“I want to assure the people of Kairuku-Hiri that many of the roads that are in deteriorating state are national roads that have not been fixed for a long time,” Isoaimo told the people. “I have raised these road issues in Parliament but nothing has yet been done.

“We will source funds where we can. As responsible leaders here not to shift blame but counter-fund these national roads like that from Bereina to Waima and Kivori.

“These are responsibilities of the Works Department and once they make funding available, we will fix them one at a time.” Isoaimo pledged K20,000 support for St Gerard’s CHW Training School.
