Centre’s pool meets international standards: Wells
The National, Wednesday February 18th, 2015
THE newly constructed swimming pool at the Taurama Aquatic Centre and Indoor Complex for the 2015 Pacific Games has fully met all Fédération Internationale de Natation (International Swimming Federation) requirements.
PNG Swimming Union president Elizabeth Wells was responding to rumours that the construction of the pool had not met the FINA standards.
She said the pool was a Myrtha 50m Stainless Steel pool approved by FINA.
“The 50m pool at the Aquatic Centre is still in the construction phase and will start taking shape in two weeks,” Wells said. “The stainless steel pool arrived from Europe and will take about eight weeks to assemble,” he said.
Wells said the Omega people for the electronic timing would arrive in April. The swim down/warm up pool is 25m — not be used for competition — is nearing completion.
All swimmers are training hard to be named in the final squad to be announced after the completion of the TNT National Championships from April 24-26.
